The Grammys

I usually hate award shows so I didn't record or watch the Grammys last night. But there was an awful lot of chatter on facebook about it so I turned it on. I saw Ryan Seacrest introduce Taylor Swift, I like them both, so I was kind of interested right away. But then Taylor Swift and some old lady sang grossly out of key for a while and then a bunch of music stars sang a michael jackson song while the screen was totally blurry because I forgot to pick up my 3D glasses at Pearl Vision last time I was there. So yeah, good call on watching a blank TV screen instead of the Grammys.

I am currently on a little adventure with my two older boys. 5 and a (soon to be) 4 year old in a Hilton is pretty fun. More later...

Patti's pregnancy

Me: answering someone's question about patti's pregnancy. "She's one millimeter diluted"

The Riviera Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

The Riviera opened on April 20, 1955 as the first high-rise and the ninth resort on the Las Vegas Strip. The Riviera is one of the oldest and most famous casino resorts in Las Vegas. The Riviera also broke new ground in its design: previously, Strip resorts resembled roadside motor courts. The Riviera is also the place late last night that took my money but offered many free drinks.

Swine Flu shot call to my doc

I called my doctor’s office today to ask about a Swine Flu shot, or H1N1 to those in the biz. I am pretty  healthy, about to run a half marathon and a full in a couple of weeks, but I have a pregnant wife in the house plus three little kids. So here is how the conversation went with the nice woman who answered the phone

 

Me: Hi, I am a patient of Dr. Martens. I was wondering if you are give the swine flu shot out, oink oink.

 

Lady: Yes, but we haven’t gotten them in yet. We are asking patients to call back at the end of the month.

 

Me: Ok. I assume you are getting a limited amount, how are you dolling them out?

 

Lady: Yes, we have a priority drawn up. Let me get it out (she is obviously looking for a memo). How old are you?

 

Me: 38

 

Lady: Oh yes, you are a priority.

 

Me: What? (totally shocked, I thought I was last on the list)

 

Lady: Yeah, it says you are one of the high risk groups.

 

Me: How can that be?

 

Lady: Lets see…it says 6 months to 18 years old, then 24 years old to 65.

 

Me: (I am totally shocked). WHAT? That is a huge group.

 

Lady: (kind of chuckles) Yeah, and I wonder why no one over 65 is priority.

 

Me: Because you don’t want to waste a dose on them, they are doomed anyway.

 

Lady: (laughs out loud) That is terrible, I can’t believe I laughed. I am going to hell.

 

Me: (I thanked her and hung up. So 18-24, college aged kids, are fine. Tell that to 40,000 kids living and going to class in close proximity at any one of the huge universities across the country)

 

Thought I’d share.

Poison Oak

I have poison oak all over my legs and arms. I got it from doing some yard work in a corner where there are a lot of bushes and stuff. I still have the vegetation I pulled up waiting to go out with the yard waste so I confirmed it as poison oak, or as I like to call it, the worst thing growing out of the ground.

Anyway, I came across this when searching for information on it..

Poison Oak can be a bush, vine, root, tree, whatever. My theory is that it is sentient and has a collective, malevolent, intelligence. I also believe it is capable of reaching out and grabbing one's ankles when hiking on a trail

Emerson's tonsils

Emerson just got back from a 24 hour stay at Children's Hospital to have his tonsils and adenoids taken out. and thus starts the lollipop guild.

(when ethan had his tonsils taken out a year and a half ago. his voice sounded like he was sucking on helium, which is common. Also, it is an awful recovery for kids and Emerson is a little more sweet, and soft, than Ethan so hopefully he will not throw up the pain meds like Ethan did)
