David and I recently began attending church with the kids. We felt it was time to get them to Sunday school, better late than never.
Today we arrived all dressed up. We were having our picture taken for the church photo directory. Our time slot was after service and coffee hour so I was fairly certain the kids would spill something on themselves and look a mess, but then it would be a realistic photo. Too clean and no one would recognize us anyway!
In addition to the picture; David and I were scheduled to participate in a new member workshop following services. Then David would take Emily and Ethan to their tennis/swimming lessons. It was a busy day.
So we get there and drop Emerson off in the child care room. I asked the ladies to keep a special eye out for spillage, told them about our picture and hoped for the best.
On my way to meet David and the older two I stopped in to the room where the photographer was set up to see if we could get our sitting moved up (the scheduled time was in the middle of our workshop). As it turned out they had a opening right after the service ended. I was excited. Now I could reasonably hope for a clean family for the picture.
I go in and sit down with my family and here comes the director of religious education.... "Emerson had a fall."
CRAP! (I did not say this out loud.)
I go back to the nursery and find him in the lap of one of the ladies, ice pack to his head. He was bleeding from his eyebrow (but no blood on his clothes!! miracle!) His nose, eyebrow an cheek were a little swollen. This is what I get for worrying about food spillage!
He seemed bruised (and a bit bloody) but otherwise fine, no signs of a concussion and probably didn't need any stitches (although I worried about that all afternoon and pondered going into the ER).
So we sat for the picture and just hope the photographer really can photoshop out the black eye.
